PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a government scheme meant to supply free electricity to households in India. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi launched this project on 15th February 2024. In the scheme, houses are subsidized upon installation of rooftop solar panels. The subsidy will cover approximately 40% of the investment cost for solar panels.The program aims to reach out to one crore families across the country.It is estimated that this plan will save the government Rs75,000Crore per year on power bills.

The household must be an Indian citizen. To install these solar panels on their roof top homes.The house hold must have valid electricity connection and no prior solar panel subsidy should have been availed by them.
PM Surya Ghar Scheme Application Procedures
Step 1. Visit the official website. (Provided at the end of this post)
Step 2. Provide the following information for registration.
– Choose your State
– Select your Electricity Distribution
Company
– Fill in your Electricity Consumer Number
– Enter Mobile Number
– Please follow as per the direction from the portal.
Step 3. Login with Customer ID & Mobile Number.
Step 4. Apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form.
Step 5. Fill out online application form.
Step 6. Wait for DISCOM’s feasibility approval. After getting a feasibility approval install plant by any of registered vendors within your DISCOM area.
Step 7. Once installation is complete, submit the plant details and apply for net metering facility.
Step 8. After net metering installation and proper scrutiny by DISCOM, they will generate commissioning certificate from this portal.
Step 9. Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.
